What GRAIN ROT actually asks of you

GRAIN ROT is a horror co-op extraction builder from Beck & Branch Games and Neem Interactive. You play a Living Spark inhabiting fragile wooden Vessels, riding a cursed elevator into procedurally generated underground ruins with up to three other players. The loop is short, punishing and addictive: descend, smash furniture, extract before the Corrupted close in.

This guide is the hub page. From here you can jump into beginner tips, the Living Spark mechanic, Outpost building and co-op tactics.

The gameplay loop in one paragraph

Every run starts at the Outpost. You board the elevator with a small loadout, ride down to a freshly generated layer, and begin scavenging. Furniture, debris, and abandoned relics can all be broken down and dragged back to the elevator. Once you ride it back up, the haul is converted at the Grinder into gold and resources for permanent Outpost upgrades. The deeper you push, the worse the Rot becomes — and the better the rewards.

Why Vessels are not health bars

Your Spark is immortal. Your Vessel is not. Vessels catch fire, splinter, and collapse from a single bad kick. When a Vessel breaks, your Spark escapes as a glowing orb that can scout, assist, and even hijack a new body. This mechanic means death is rarely final for an individual, but if every Vessel breaks, the run’s loot is lost for the session.

Co-op is the intended way to play

GRAIN ROT supports solo play but is designed around four-player co-op. Anti-grief physics — dropkicks, furniture launches, blocking corridors with allies — are part of the chaos. Coordination matters more than reflexes.
