Who the Corrupted are
The Corrupted are Sparks that have degraded into madness underground. They are the primary antagonist of every descent. Different archetypes require different tactics, and the deeper you go, the worse they become.
Why they escalate with Rot
As the Rot level rises, Corrupted bodies warp, voices distort, and emotes change. Higher-tier Corrupted move faster, hit harder, and resist standard furniture throws. Elite Encounters introduced in the 1.0 launch add named-tier enemies with unique mechanics.
Tactics that actually work
- Dropkick timing — sprint for at least two seconds before pressing melee. Pressing too early produces a weak punch.
- Furniture launches — pick up a chair and throw it. The impact can finish weaker Corrupted outright.
- Silent extraction — it is possible to extract while a Corrupted is within 10 meters, provided you avoid detection. Read the Extraction page for the full sequence.
- Anti-grief use — Corrupted can be baited into chasing an ally’s broken Spark, freeing the rest of the team to grab loot.
Common mistakes
- Engaging a Corrupted in a narrow corridor — you cannot retreat.
- Standing near an industrial heater while fighting — explosions kill your Vessel.
- Ignoring audio cues that warn of incoming packs.
What we do not publish
